National Drug Take Back Day 2018

National Drug Take Back Day 2018

Prime Care Family Practice encourages you to participate in the 2018 National Drug Take Back Event on April 28th from 10am-2pm where you can bring unused prescription drugs to be safely disposed of.

Last year Americans nationwide did their part to reduce the opioid crisis by bringing the DEA and its more than 4,200 local and tribal law enforcement partners a record-setting 912,305 pounds of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for disposal at more than 5,300 collection sites.

On Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. our local area Police Departments will partner with the Drug Enforcement Administration to give the public its 15th opportunity in 7 years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your pills for disposal to the Prince George Police Department – side parking lot, Hopewell Police Department – parking lot by main entrance, Petersburg Police Department – CVS Pharmacy, Colonial Heights Police Department – Toys R Us parking lot or the Chesterfield County Police Department – Manchester High School front loop. The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.) The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

Unused or expired prescription medications are a public safety issue, leading to accidental poisoning, overdose, and abuse.
Pharmaceutical drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs when taken without a prescription or a doctor’s supervision.
The non-medical use of prescription drugs ranks second only to marijuana as the most common form of drug abuse in America.
The majority of teenagers abusing prescription drugs get them from family and friends — and
the home medicine cabinet.
Unused prescription drugs thrown in the trash can be retrieved and abused or illegally sold.
Unused drugs that are flushed contaminate the water supply. Proper disposal of unused drugs
saves lives and protects the environment.
Take-back programs are the best way to dispose of old drugs.
